October 1928- December 1932 First Five year plan concentrated on industries the heavy ones neglected other industries resulting in suffering of the people. though not many targets made, soviet economy was kickstarted! January 1933- December 1937 Second Five Year plan gave consumer industries more recognition people generally led better lives transport and communications chemical grew. USSR was virtually selfsufficient in machinemaking and metalworking! not enough growth in consumer goods industry although showing signs of recovery 1934-1936 :THREE GOOD YEARS pressure not so intense, food rationing ended families had more disposable income January 1938- June 1941 Third five year plan disrupted by WWII. the consumer industries plunged again due to more concentration on the heavy industries many factories ran out of material lack of oil steel grew a bit
